iShowU HD was released a few days ago, At first glance you think this looks allot like screenflow and the truth is, it dose. Now I’m not saying that the boys over at ShinyWhiteBox were aiming to copy it but, it really dose remind you of ScreenFlow. iShowU HD comes in two versions, HD and HD Pro, the pro version has more features than the HD version has, like, Key Recording and Mouse Strokes, A low CPU usage feature, support for pro Apps such as Final Cut Pro and The ability to add watermarks.
So, it may look allot like ScreenFlow but, it brings better features to the table, such as:
- Custom backgrounds
- iSight/Webcam support
- Upload directly to YouTube
- Easily embed watermarks
- Record Keystrokes
- Low CPU usage mode
- Specific support for Final Cut Express/Pro
- On the fly scaling
- Works with full screen OpenGL apps
- Support for all CoreAudio inputs (multi channel mixers)
My favorite two are, The ability to embed watermarks and The ability to upload directly to YouTube. So how the two of these work is, if you want to embed a watermark (Like the little logo you see at the bottom of a T.V channel) all you need to do is click Media, select your picture and and drag it to the video, then you can resize, replace and do whatever you want with it. If you want to upload to YouTube all you have to do is click the little arrow on top of your recorded clip and select YouTube, then enter all the details like you would if you were uploading directly to YouTube through iMovie 08, the great thing about this one is that it uploads in great video quality.
Overall I think iShowU HD is the best out of all the screen recording apps for Mac, it’s just so much easier to make videos with E.G if you want to add you webcam or iSight into the video, you just click “Camera” and it’s there, click it again and it’s gone. I like to think of iShowU HD as ScreenFlow, iMovie 08 and Screenium all squashed together to create iShowU HD.
I definitely recommend iShowU HD, it’s cheaper than ScreenFlow, and has more features, It’s also worth getting the Pro Version because it’s worth the extra features and heck it’s still cheaper than ScreenFlow is.
Here is My Video on it:
